The director of "Secret Invasion," Ali Selim, confirmed in an interview with Variety that a scene in the series' finale involves the rescue of the real Rhodey from the Skrulls.
In the scene, the rescued Rhodey is wearing a hospital gown, and it is revealed that he had been held hostage by the Skrulls for a long time.
When asked if this hints at Rhodey being taken as far back as "Captain America: Civil War," Selim responded with a simple confirmation: "Yep."
In "Captain America: Civil War," Rhodey loses the use of his legs after being accidentally hit by a beam from Vision, but it's now revealed that the one affected was actually a Skrull impersonating him.
"Secret Invasion" brings back MCU veterans such as Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, and Don Cheadle as Rhodey.
The series also features new additions, including Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Dermot Mulroney, Killian Scott, and more.
The storyline of "Secret Invasion" takes place in the present-day MCU, where Nick Fury learns of a secret invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls.
Together with his allies, including Talos, Maria Hill, and Everett Ross, they race against time to stop the imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.
