Kussh Sinha is all set to make his directorial debut with Nikita Roy, starring his sister Sonakshi Sinha alongside Arjun Rampal, Paresh Rawal, and Bogdana Orleanova. Ahead of the film’s release on June 27, Kussh shared his journey, challenges, and casting choices in an interview with Zoom.
The Making of Nikita Roy
Kussh, who has worked as an assistant director under filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Abhinav Kashyap, said that while making Nikita Roy was tiring at times, it was ultimately a fulfilling experience. “Working with such talented actors and creating the story we had envisioned made it all worth it,” he shared.
Time management was his biggest hurdle during the shoot. “No matter how experienced you are, time is always tight. But the key is to work smartly and ensure the scenes and performances don’t suffer,” he explained.
Sonakshi’s Role and Professional Approach
Although Sonakshi is his sister, Kussh emphasized that her involvement was purely professional. “I gave her the script and told her to decide based on the story, not our relationship,” he said. Sonakshi agreed to the project after connecting with the main character, Nikita Roy, though some changes were made to the original script.
Why Paresh Rawal Was Cast

Speaking about casting Paresh Rawal, Kussh said they offered him a role with depth and uniqueness, which the veteran actor appreciated. “Paresh ji is known for comedy today, but he has done powerful roles in the past. I knew he had the range to pull off this complex character, and thankfully, he saw the value in it too,” Kussh said.
He added that it was important to remind audiences of Rawal’s versatility beyond comedy. “He can take on any role you give him. We’re lucky he agreed.”

Reflecting on his time as an assistant director, Kussh credited Sanjay Leela Bhansali for teaching him the importance of attention to detail and staying focused under pressure.
Nikita Roy is all set to hit theatres on June 27, and with an experienced cast and a debut director full of passion, it promises to be an engaging watch.
