Sanam Teri Kasam Re-Release Becomes Highest-Grossing, Surpasses Bollywood Classics
The romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, has created history with its re-release at the box office. The film has surpassed several iconic Bollywood re-releases, including Sholay, Rockstar, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and even Shah Rukh Khan’s beloved romantic films like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer-Zaara, and Devdas.

After crossing the ₹50 crore mark, Sanam Teri Kasam is now inching towards ₹60 crore in worldwide earnings. According to data available on Wikipedia, the film has become the highest-grossing re-released movie in Indian cinema history.
The movie has overtaken Tumbbad, which previously held the second position with ₹38 crore. Following closely, Ghilli is in third place with collections ranging between ₹26-32.50 crore.

According to Koimoi, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas was made on a ₹30 crore budget and earned ₹41 crore, achieving a 36.67% profit. Meanwhile, Veer-Zaara recorded a 50% profit with a ₹33 crore collection against a ₹22 crore budget. Kal Ho Naa Ho secured a 37.8% profit, earning ₹38.6 crore with a ₹28 crore investment. Collectively, these movies earned a 40.75% profit with total revenue of ₹112.6 crore on a combined budget of ₹80 crore.
The Success Story of Sanam Teri Kasam
Sanam Teri Kasam, originally released on February 5, 2016, under Eros International, received mixed reviews and was a commercial failure at the time. However, due to its rising popularity on OTT platforms, it was re-released on February 7, 2025, and emerged as a box-office success.
The film, directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, tells the story of Inder, a tough ex-convict, and Saru, a traditional librarian. The two fall in love and get married, but their journey takes a tragic turn. The film features cinematography by Chirantan Das and music composed by Himesh Reshammiya, with lyrics penned by Sameer Anjaan, Shabbir Ahmed, and Subrat Sinha.

However, reports suggest that instead of Mawra Hocane, Shraddha Kapoor may be cast as the female lead, pairing up with Harshvardhan Rane once again.
