The makers of Hitman and Kane & Lynch, IO Interactive, have finally lifted the curtain—just a little—on their much-anticipated James Bond project. After nearly five years of secrecy, the game has a name: 007 First Light.
A New Bond Begins
Announced on June 2, 007 First Light will explore an entirely new origin story for the world’s most iconic spy. According to the game’s official website, players will experience Bond’s early days and work their way up to earn that legendary “00” status.
Rather than pulling from past films or actors, IOI is building a fresh version of James Bond specifically for gamers. This isn’t a rehash of familiar territory—it’s a brand-new take, designed to let players grow alongside the character.
First Glimpse of Bond From The Creator of Hitman
Along with the title reveal, IO Interactive launched a new Twitter account dedicated to the game and shared a shadowy image showing the silhouette of the new Bond. A full reveal, including never-before-seen footage, is expected later this week—likely as part of the Summer Game Fest / Not-E3-Week 2025 events.

What We Know So Far
Hints about a younger Bond first surfaced back in April during Nintendo’s Switch 2 showcase. IO Interactive confirmed the character won’t be modeled after any past Bond actor, emphasizing their goal to create a version of the spy that players can truly connect with.
Back in October, IOI head Hakan Abrak told IGN:
“We’ve created a new Bond from scratch. It’s thrilling to mix all the legacy and tradition with something fresh—a Bond that players can grow with and truly call their own.”
A Trilogy in the Making
This game is just the beginning. IO Interactive has shared plans to turn 007 First Light into the start of a full trilogy. Fans of stealth-action titles can expect a long-term journey with this new Bond.
