Oscar-Winning Lupita Nyong’o Set to Lead Jury at Berlin Film Festival
In an exciting development for the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival, renowned Oscar-winning actor Lupita Nyong’o has been appointed as the president of the international jury. The festival, a key event in the European film calendar, is scheduled to take place from February 15-25, marking the final edition under the current leadership of executive director Mariette Rissenbeek and artistic director Carlo Chatrian.

Beyond her acting prowess, Nyong’o has also ventured into directing, and producing, and is the author of a children’s book titled “Sulwe.” She clinched the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2014 for her compelling role in “12 Years A Slave.”

The announcement of Nyong’o’s role precedes the anticipated reveal of the festival’s complete jury, a tradition usually observed closer to the event’s commencement. In the previous edition, actress Kristen Stewart led a seven-member jury that awarded the prestigious Golden Bear to French director Nicolas Philibert’s documentary, “On the Adamant.”
Coinciding with this news, Germany’s Culture Minister, Claudia Roth, is expected to unveil the successor to Rissenbeek and Chatrian, emphasizing her vision for a single-person leadership for the festival in the future.
