Fans eager to watch Prabhas and Deepika Padukone team up in the upcoming sci-fi movie, “Kalki 2898 AD,” may have to wait a bit longer. Reports suggest that the film’s release is being postponed due to the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in 2024.

According to sources close to the production, the film, originally set to hit theaters on May 9, will now be delayed to a later date. An official announcement regarding the new release date is expected from the makers soon.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, known for his previous works like “Yevade Subramanyam” and “Mahanati,” “Kalki 2898 AD” also features Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles.
Speaking about the film at an event held at IIT Bombay, Nag Ashwin highlighted its unique concept, stating, “In India, we haven’t explored much in the sci-fi genre. This film ventures into a futuristic world of its own, which is a rarity in our cinema. It’s exciting because it presents India in a futuristic and dystopian setting, a perspective we haven’t seen before.”
He further explained, “The film is set in a timeline just before and after the Midjourney era, and we witnessed significant advancements, especially with text-to-image and image-to-text generators, which facilitated our work.”

New Release Date of Kalki 2898 AD
“Kalki 2898 AD” is not the only film facing uncertainty over its release date due to clashes with the election schedule. Another film, “Gangs of Godavari,” starring Vishwak Sen and Neha Sshetty, has also been postponed.
The Lok Sabha elections for 543 seats will be conducted in seven phases, with the first phase scheduled for April 19. Vote counting is slated for June 4.
