Post Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic demise, Rhea Chakraborty faced a torrent of accusations and derogatory labels, including being branded a “chudail” or a “witch.” In a recent interview at the India Today Conclave Mumbai 2023, Rhea candidly expressed her unexpected fondness for the term, asserting her defiance against societal norms.
“I kind of like the name ‘chudail’ (witch).” She went on to assert, “A witch was a woman who did not subscribe to the patriarchal society or her own opinion that was against the popular opinion of men and the patriarchal society. Maybe I am that person, maybe I am a chudail. Maybe I know how to do black magic.”
Breaking Free from Patriarchal Beliefs
During the discussion, Rhea Chakraborty also delved into the prevailing patriarchal mindset in society, remarking,
“Unfortunately, even today if some man is successful and he gets married and his success ratio drops they will say dekho jab se ye zindagi mein aayi tab se ye iska career kharab ho gaya hai (Look, ever since she ventured into his life, his career has gone haywire). It’s almost like the man had no identity before the woman. Men in India most definitely do not listen to their wives or girlfriends and if they did it would’ve been a much better society.”
Current Legal Situation of Rhea Chakraborty
Rhea Chakraborty, who was apprehended by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in September 2020, endured nearly six weeks of detention at the Byculla jail. Presently, she is out on bail, and the matter remains under judicial consideration at the Bombay High Court.
